It is a pleasure to write in support of my friends at the Bristol Violin Shop.
I took my violin to them for advice. Their assessment indicated that they could make it easier to play. After their subtle adjustments to the bass bar, the instrument began to sing very much more readily and my confidence in the sounds I was making increased significantly.
For over twenty years I have sent to the shop pupils of all standards – often with their parents – knowing there would be a welcome along with much wise and unpressured guidance. Experienced staff spend as long as it takes to find the right instrument, bow, case and equipment for every player, always realistically priced. The care taken to ensure that each individual leaves with a comfortable chin-rest/shoulder rest combination is exemplary and the opportunity to try fine instruments and bows on approval always appreciated. With expert instrument repair and maintenance, impartial advice about the sale of private instruments, insurance valuations, swift mail order response and a ready knowledge of the area’s professional players and teachers, this is much, much more than just a shop… It remains a wholly dependable cornerstone in the lives of many in the string-playing and teaching community.
